New York is not only the economical capital of the United States of America; it also has a great influence in the American culture and in the world of arts. Many cultural and artistic movements like African-American Renaissance have emerged in this city before it got spread throughout the nation. American modern dance has developed in this city and it was the most preferred venue for Jazz in 1940’s and the expressionism in 1950’s. This cultural background is still visible in this city and the most unfortunate thing is that most of the foreigners like are not aware of its cultural base. I have taken this city as an important economic center and a tourist spot till my last visit.
It was a personal tour on an invitation extended by a long time friend to visit New York City. Being a personal tour, I had to spend for each and every expense including airline tickets. Hence I was very particular in purchasing cheap tickets to New York as I can save some money on my traveling expenses. Being one of the most important cities in the world all international airlines including British Airways and Air France are operating flights to New York. Many other airlines are also operating cheap flights in this region. Hence there was no difficulty in getting the ticket.
The life in New York was very thrilling as my friend was very familiar with the city. He took me to all important places and we enjoyed every bit of the life there. He is also a music and drama enthusiast like me. This helped me to witness some good musical events in the city. New York has a history of music since the beginning of 20th century. Broadway Musical Theater, which still attracts millions of people every day was one among the venues which has started bringing the culture of music to the city. It still hosts a number of musical events every day.
Apart from music drama and other theatrical art forms also have a good fan following in New York. We have gone to several such theaters where there is a drama playing every day. It is not only the performing arts, but the other forms of the arts are also revered here equally. Various galleries showcasing the paintings and murals by many artists are standing as an example for this. In 1913 an exhibition was conducted in the city. The Armory Show, (That was the name given to that exhibition) has really thrilled the denizens and that was the first exhibition which brought modern European paintings to this city. Those paintings really inspired the people and thus started the affection for paintings. Even there is a law that a particular percent of the amount required to construct a building should be used to decorate a public building owned by the city to get approval for constructing a building by anybody.
The days I have spend there were really unforgettable. Every moment of the life was artistic and even now those days used to come in my dreams.
